Sharpe Says Huskies May Be Best Offense the Blackshirts Face All Season

When Huskers.com asked social media users to Ask the Voices about Nebraska's visit to Washington Saturday, most focused on the same thing that's on the mind of NU Defensive Coordinator Carl Pelini - a talented Washington offense, led by Jake Locker.

Just like the national media and NFL draft experts, Nebraska coaches, players and sportscasters have a healthy respect for Locker and his teammates.

One fan asked Greg Sharpe and Lane Grindle if they expect Nebraska's defense to neutralize Locker like the Blackshirts handled Florida Heisman Trophy Winner Danny Wuerffel and Tennessee's Peyton Manning in major bowl games.

Sharpe, Nebraska's play-by-play announcer, said that Locker - projected by some to be the first pick in the 2011 NFL Draft - is the best quarterback Nebraska has faced in the last three years, according to Carl Pelini.

Considering that the Pelini brothers have faced Oklahoma Heisman Trophy Winner Sam Bradford, Missouri's Chase Daniel and Baylor's Robert Griffin, that statement covers a lot of ground.

"To me, Washington is more than just Locker," Sharpe said. "This is going to be a challenge ... you could even make a case that it might be the best offense we see all season long."

The five-time-a-week host for Husker Sports Nightly and sideline game reporter, Grindle followed Sharpe's comments with an observation of his own. "Colt McCoy was another dual-threat quarterback Nebraska has faced in the past, and we did a good job against him," Grindle said.

"The Nebraska defensive system sets up very well for the dual-threat quarterback," Grindle pointed out, "because the defensive end is so much about containment, and that's what you have to have against a guy like Jake Locker."

The expected noise level in a loud stadium Saturday was another popular question among social media users, and Nebraska's Voices offered some interesting comments on that subject as well.
