Two Huskers Earn Preseason Rankings

The Nebraska men's tennis team was well represented in the 2010 ITA National Preseason Rankings, which were released on Friday, Sept. 10. Christopher Aumueller and Calin Paar both appeared in the singles rankings, while also starting the fall season in the doubles rankings. Paar checked in at No. 49 in the singles rankings, while Aumueller is ranked at No. 61. The duo checked in at No. 44 in the doubles rankings.

Paar is coming off his best year as a Husker last season when he collected 16 victories while playing primarily at the No. 2 position. The senior amassed a 4-6 record against nationally ranked opponents in 2010, and finished the year ranked No. 70. Head coach Kerry McDermott is excited about the progress Paar has made in his three years as a Husker, and believes he is ready to take the next step as an elite college tennis player.

"We feel Calin will have an outstanding senior year and is ready to be put on the list with the top players in the country at the end of the year," McDermott said. "The sky is the limit and we will work very hard with him to reach his ultimate goal of making in the NCAA tournament in singles."

Aumueller finished last season ranked at No. 85 after going 10-9 in singles play. The junior played all but one of his matches at the No. 1 spot, and regularly matched up against some of the top players in the country. McDermott said Aumueller has the talent to be one of the top players in the country.

"Christopher is one of the best players we have had in many years talent wise," McDermott said. "We feel fortunate to have him for two more years with our team."

The Huskers will continue their fall season when the travel to Charlottesville, Va., to play in the Virginia Ranked Plus One Invitational from Sept. 24-26. The trip to east will mark the second time in three weeks the Huskers will travel to Charlottesville after playing in the UVa Classic last weekend.
