Former Husker Aleks Maric helped Australia to a 10th place finish at the FIBA World Championships in Turkey this month. The former All-Big 12 performer averaged 9.2 points and 4.3 rebounds per game while shooting 56 percent from the floor, as Australia finished the competition with a 3-3 mark after losing to Slovenia in elimination play.
Maric was in double figures three times, including a 10-of-14 shooting effort for 23 points and nine rebounds in a one-point win over Jordan. He also chipped in 15 points against Germany and added 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting against Serbia. In all, he grabbed four or more rebounds in four of Australia’s six contests.
A two-time All-Big 12 performer, Maric finished his career at Nebraska with 1,630 points and 1,015 rebounds, becoming only the third Big 12 player to record more than 1,500 points and 1,000 rebounds. He has signed a contract with Panathinaikos in Greece this season.
