Pre-Western Kentucky
Brandon Kinnie
Junior, Wide Receiver
On if he's ready to play against somebody other than his teammates
"Yeah, it's getting old playing against Prince (Amukamara) and Alfonzo (Dennard) every day. I'm ready to take it out on somebody else and play some football."
On if he has looked at Western Kentucky
"Yeah, we took a look at them a little bit, Coach (Ted) Gilmore and the receivers looked at them. Fast, very small, but very fast guys so we're going to look to take advantage of that."
On how you take advantage of smaller corners
"In a bad way. Blocking schemes and just being physical. Being a big-bodied guy and playing big. Going up and getting the ball."
On if he thinks there will be a challenge in finding a rhythm with the chance of three quarterbacks playing
"No, not really. We practiced with them all summer and camp, so all it is coming from a wide receiver is just catching the ball, making plays wherever the ball is at."
On how he feels Jermarcus "Yoshi" Hardrick has adjusted this fall camp
"He's coming along. It's hard, just like it was for me. That's why I'm glad I'm here for Lavonte (David), Stanley (Jean-Baptiste) and Yoshi, just to let them know to keep their head up because it's going to be hard, it's going to be tough and you're not going to get it the first go around. It's going to take some time like it did for me. He's coming along good. He's learning. He's got the physical part down, so now it's just being technically sound and doing it right."
On if he told Hardrick about the offense before he got here
"I guess you could say that. He watched a lot of film and that was a big thing for him and Lavonte. They watched a lot of film and they did way more than I did when I got here. I thought you just had to go out there, mess up, and then learn from that, but film does help a lot. They do that a whole lot, and that's what helped them learning the playbook and stuff like that. Lavonte is learning real fast, and they like that about him."
On his impressions of Lavonte David
"He's just fast. Everybody asks me to explain him, but it's nothing to explain. He's a football player. He's just got a knack for the football. He's always around the football. Whereever you see the football, he's there. That's really how I can explain him. He's not a big hitter. He's just going to make the tackle, but he is just always there."
On how much last year's struggles are motivating the wide receivers this year
"I think we have a lot to prove. Me and Niles (Paul) talk about it all the time. We all know that. We work hard every day to do that. We know that we didn't live up to everything that was expected last year, and that's a big thing. The whole corps feels like they have a lot to prove this year. We took a lot of heat last year."
On what kind of a statement the offense can make in this game
"It's a big statement game I guess you could say. Come out and just prove to everybody, like Coach Pelini said, we are back and we're here to stay. Just to make plays and be that hardcore, hardnosed football team."
On the :01 wrist bands that were made and what kind of motivation they have provided throughout camp
"One of the players made these bracelets, his dad made it for everybody. That game, a lot of people still think about it. I know they do. It comes on a lot on ESPNU, or Classic. I can't watch it. It still eats me away a lot because if I would have got my foot in we would have won the game I believe. When I watch the game at home on DVR, it eats at me bad. It's good motivation. Like I said, we have a lot to prove this year."
On how you approach a game against a team that didn't win a game last season
"To me that means nothing. I play football, I like to play football, and I'm going to play the same against whoever I play. I believe the team feels the same way. That means nothing. We're going to go out and play hard regardless."
On the difference between throwing abilities of the three quarterbacks
"They all have good touch. They all can put it out there. Zac (Lee) throws the ball even harder than when he did before his injury. The only difference maybe is Taylor (Martinez) might get the ball out a little faster than both of them, but as far as velocity and getting it there, they all three have it."
On if he feels like the offense is better from going against one of the top defense in the country all camp
"Yeah, big time. We won't face corners like Price and Alfonzo. I get so tired of going against them every day, but they are making you work more moves and pull out stuff that you have never tried before, and that's good. It's good going against them every day, but it's getting old at the same time. I'm ready to unleash it on somebody else."
On if Taylor Martinez has made improvements at checking multiple receivers instead of going to the run
"Yeah, he's shown that a lot in the summer as opposed to the spring. I was in there (spring game) a whole lot, like "throw the ball," but he can run fast. Everybody sees that he's fast, but in the spring game I was telling him every time "will you throw the ball?" It was all fun and games. It was just us wanting to make plays and that's just being a wide receiver wanting the ball. Like I said, he's a fast guy and we're going to use him in the offense. You've all seen him. I still say sometimes, 'good God, look at him run.'"
