The second year of the Husker Life Seminar kicked off on Sunday, August 29th featuring Life Skills Theatre educating all incoming Huskers on various social and life skills issues. This year, theatre performers consisted of New Student Enrollment (NSE) leaders from the Office of Admissions.
Eight student leaders who have successfully transitioned into college life and are among the most involved campus-wide acted out scenarios focusing on wellness/college stressors, relationship violence and party issues.
Following each scene, campus and athletic administrators provided education and insights alerting the incoming Huskers to both campus resources and policies.
Nebraska student-athletes have consistently enjoyed Life Skills Theatre presentations, commenting that the real-life situational skits best prepare them to make responsible choices when placed in difficult situations.
Nebraska Athletic Director Tom Osborne instituted the mandated seminar in the fall of 2009 to ensure that all incoming student-athletes receive immediate, consistent and proactive education on critical life skills.
The semester long class meets on Sunday evenings and is offered through the College of Education and Human Sciences. Although mandated to attend, student-athletes do not receive academic credit for the class which is graded on a pass/no pass basis appearing both on their official class schedule and transcript.
Life Skills Theatre, featuring the NSE leaders, will return to the Husker Life Seminar on September 12th.
