The day before Nebraska hosts Texas Oct. 16 in a rematch of the 2009 Big 12 Conference Championship football game, Jason Peter is reaching out to his fellow Huskers to support the Nebraska Athletic Department.
Peter has received commitments from a well-known cast of Husker Legends that will play in the Jason Peter all fore! Junior Achievement event at Lincoln's Hillcrest Country Club, and two of those legends, Brenden Stai and Matt Davison, are up for auction on Huskers.com.
Davison and Stai, both of whom now work for the Husker Sports Network, will lead separate foursomes. Bidding for four spots to play with Davison and for four spots to play with Stai will begin at $2,000 each. Bidding will end on Tuesday, Sept. 14, for the Oct. 14-15 events. Proceeds from the Stai and Davison auctions on Huskers.com will benefit Nebraska's Athletic Department.
One of Nebraska's all-time leading receivers, Davison is best known for making the "miracle catch" at Missouri in 1997, sending that game into overtime and helping Tom Osborne finish his career with a third national championship in his last four years as head coach. A first-team All-America offensive guard on Osborne's first national championship team in 1994, Stai went on to play eight years in the National Football League, including his first five with Pittsburgh, where he became a Super Bowl starter.
Editor's note: Each Husker Legend will host a foursome, and proceeds from those foursomes - as well as a Thursday night banquet that will feature a live and silent auction - will benefit Junior Achievement. Former Nebraska Defensive Coordinator Charles McBride will be the featured speaker at Thursday night's banquet. Other Husker Legends committed to join Peter are Mike Anderson, Eric Crouch, Tommie Frazier, Aaron Graham, Larry Jacobson, Chad Kelsay, Chris Kelsay, Jeff Kinney, Joel Makovicka, Danny Noonan, Mike Rozier, Neil Smith, Aaron Taylor, Eric Warfield, Zach Wiegert and Grant Wistrom. In addition to McBride, Peter has received "special guest" commitments from Nebraska Athletic Director Tom Osborne, Nebraska Men's Basketball Coach Doc Sadler, University of Nebraska-Omaha Athletic Director Trev Alberts and Nebraska Astronaut Clayton Anderson.
