Lincoln - The Nebraska football team practiced for two and one half hours Monday morning at the Ed and Joyanne Gass practice field outside of the Hawks Championship Center before preparing for another practice Monday afternoon. Head Coach Bo Pelini complimented the Huskers' tempo at practice and noted the team got a lot done.
The Huskers took the field Monday morning after a day off on Sunday. Pelini commented that a day without practice helped the players rest their legs.
"I'm sure they're not game ready," Pelini said. "They are still a little leg weary, but you couldn't see it out there. They moved around pretty good out there today. We've got to have another good one this afternoon."
Redshirt freshman Jeremiah Sirles entered fall camp with hopes of competing for a starting job on a Nebraska offensive line that returns four starters from a year ago. Pelini has been encouraged by the work he's seen out of the 6-6 310-pound lineman.
"He's a young guy who's got some talent," Pelini said. "He's playing pretty well. He's competing with (Jermarcus) Hardrick at the left tackle position and has done some good things. I'm seeing progress, but I'm seeing some things he can fix too, just like any young guy. In time he's going to be a good football player."
With the second week of fall camp starting, Pelini said that the intensity level remains the same and competition is evident at all positions.
"This is a big evaluation week, but every day in our program is a big evaluation day," Pelini said. "This program is about competing and competition, I don't know how many practices we're at, obviously it is a big week for us."
