Lincoln - The Nebraska soccer team began pre-season preparations for the 2010 season on Friday, as it kicked off fall camp with a pair of practices at the Hawks Championship Center and Nebraska Soccer Field. The Huskers will continue workouts for the next two weeks, leading up to their Aug. 22 season opener at New Mexico.
Nebraska's fall camp practice schedule will be interspersed with three scrimmages, one of which took place Friday afternoon. The Huskers will also travel to the University of Denver next Sunday for its lone exhibition contest of the season. A 2009 NCAA Tournament qualifier, the Pioneers won the Sun Belt Conference championship and finished with a 17-6-1 record.
The Huskers return eight starters from its 11-5-4 squad a year ago, including 2009 All-Big 12 selections Morgan Marlborough and Molly Thomas. The duo combined for 29 goals and led the Huskers to the second-best scoring offense in the NCAA (3.10 goals per game). Marlborough had 21 goals alone and claimed the Big 12 Offensive Player and Rookie of the Year honors, while Thomas earned Second Team All-Big 12 accolades.
Fans will get their first chance to see the 2010 Huskers on Wednesday, Aug. 25 at the annual Meet-N-Beat at the Nebraska Soccer Field at 6:30 p.m. The event will precede Nebraska's home opener on Friday, Aug. 27 vs. Loyola (Chicago) at 5 p.m.
