Arntz Named Academic All-American

Lincoln - Nebraska senior swimmer Kaitlin Arntz joined an elite level of Husker scholar-athletes, as she was named a third-team ESPN the Magazine Academic All-American on Thursday.

An advertising major with a 3.94 GPA, Arntz is just the second Husker female swimmer to be an Academic All-American. She joins Courtney Jensen, who was named a first-team selection in 2000.  Arntz's selection also increased Nebraska's nation-leading total to 274 all-time CoSIDA Academic All-America selections across all sports.

Arntz finished her Husker career in 2010, as one of the most accomplished swimmers in Nebraska history. She was a 10-time scorer at the conference meet in her career, including three top-six finishes in 2010. Arntz also owns the school's third-fastest times in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke and the 200 yard individual medley.

This season, she became the first Husker to qualify for the NCAA Championships since Lauren Bailey in 2007. While at the championships, the Omaha, Neb., native competed in the 200-yard IM, the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard breaststroke.

In the classroom, she is an eight-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor roll and was a three-time first-team Academic All-Big 12 selection (2008-10).
