Lincoln - The Nebraska soccer program has remained active in its efforts to benefit cancer research as it donated $1,000 to "Kicks for a Cure" at the fifth annual event April 17 in Omaha.
This year's fundraiser was held in conjunction with the Huskers' spring exhibition match at Creighton, as well as a men's collegiate contest and high school matches at Morrison Stadium. Proceeds from the event benefit the University of Nebraska and Creighton University medical centers.
Nebraska is among several Division I soccer programs contributing to Kicks for a Cure, including Marquette, Notre Dame, Kansas, Minnesota, Iowa State and Creighton. Numerous Division II teams and Omaha area high schools also participate.
"Kicks for a Cure" raised $100,000 at its first annual event five years ago, while collecting over $152, 000 in 2009. The organization has amassed more than $550,000 in the past four years.
