Stevenson Climbs Into Top 10 at Big 12 Championships

Norman, Okla. - Senior JC Stevenson fired a second-round 74 to finish the first 36 holes at 149 in a tie for 10th place at the 2010 Big 12 Championships at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club on Saturday.

Stevenson's second round allowed her to climb three spots on the individual leaderboard entering Sunday's final round in Oklahoma.

Despite a strong second round from the senior from Grand Island, Neb., the Huskers slipped three spots into 10th place in the team standings at 614 after a second-round 309. The Huskers head into Sunday's final round with a 36-hole total of 614, one stroke behind ninth-place Baylor and two shots back of eighth-place Missouri.

Oklahoma State heads into the final round in firm control atop the leaderboard at 589 (293-296), 10 strokes in front of second-place Texas (302-297-599). Texas A&M and Kansas State are 11 shots back in a tie for third at 600.

In addition to two strong rounds from Stevenson, the Huskers received another solid showing from sophomore Madeleine Sheils. The Boise, Idaho, native navigated the 6,327-yard, par-72 layout at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club for a second-round 76 to close the day in a tie for 14th place at 151.

Fellow sophomore Kayla Knopik (Papillion, Neb.) settled for a second-round 80 on Saturday to slip from a tie for 13th into a tie for 36th at 155. Junior Mary Kate Bird managed a 79 for the Huskers to move into a tie for 50th at 161, while senior Charlotte Wendner struggled with an 83 to close the day in a tie for 56th at 163.

Oklahoma State's Caroline Hedwall scorched the course for a five-under-par 67 in the second round to take a four-stroke lead (137) over teammate Victoria Park (141) on the individual leaderboard. Kansas State's Morgan Moon sits nine strokes back of Hedwall in third place at 146.
