Huskers Finish Regular Season in Oklahoma
The No. 40 Nebraska women's tennis team finishes its regular season this weekend with matches at Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. The 18-4 Huskers have a chance to tie and break the school record this weekend for victories in a season, which currently stands at 19. The Huskers are also 7-2 in conference play, which is good for third in the standings, and if they are able to beat both the Sooners and the Cowgirls, could secure their highest-ever finish in the Big 12, as NU finished third in 2005.
The Huskers split a pair of matches for the second straight week last weekend, losing at No. 20 Texas on Friday before defeating No. 34 Texas A&M on Saturday. Nebraska's victory over the Aggies marked the highest-ranked opponent that NU has beaten since 2005.
Oklahoma is currently fifth in the Big 12 standings with a 6-3 record and has a 16-4 overall record. The No. 37 Sooners have won their last three matches and are 10-2 at home this season. Oklahoma State is ranked 57th in the latest ITA rankings, and owns a 4-5 conference record and 11-8 overall record.
The Huskers travel to Austin, Texas, for the Big 12 Championships next weekend. Nebraska has a good chance of getting a top-four seed, which would earn them a first-round bye. Last year, the Huskers lost in the semifinals to eventual champions Baylor.
