Huskers Drop Close Matches in Wisconsin

Milwaukee - The Husker soccer team faced a pair of tough opponents on its last road trip of the 2010 spring season Sunday in Milwaukee, dropping 2-1 decisions to Marquette and Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Nebraska will return inside state borders for its last weekend of spring play, hosting Big Ten foe Minnesota and traveling to Creighton this Saturday.

Returning All-Big 12 selection Molly Thomas scored both goals for the Huskers, but her individual effort was not enough to lift NU over the Golden Eagles or Panthers, both 2009 NCAA Tournament qualifiers. Marquette finished last season with a 15-5-3 record and was ranked in the top 25 until being ousted from the NCAA Tournament following a first round loss to No. 23 Dayton. Wisconsin-Milwaukee had a 12-6-3 mark in 2009 and were also eliminated in the first round of the NCAA Tournament after a 3-0 loss to No. 13 Central Florida.

Nebraska was without forward Morgan Marlborough this weekend. As part of the U.S. Under-20 Women's National Team, the 2009 Big 12 Player of the Year is currently in Carson, Calif., attempting to make the final 21-player roster that will represent the United States at the 2010 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Germany this July. This week's training camp at The Home Depot Center precedes another camp in May, followed by a trip to Germany in June.

Nebraska now returns to Lincoln for its only home match of the spring season this Saturday, April 17 when the Huskers host Minnesota at 9:30 a.m. The match will be part of the Husker Nation Pavilion festivities at the Nebraska Soccer Field, as the NU football team plays its annual Red-White Spring Game inside Memorial Stadium at 1 p.m. In the afternoon, Nebraska travels to Omaha to take on the Creighton Bluejays at 4:30 p.m.
