New Brunswick, N. J. - Despite heading into the elimination bracket early in Friday's double-elimination tournament, the Nebraska bowling team kept pushing forward to earn a chance at a back-to-back NCAA title.
After defeating Central Missouri in Friday's first round of Baker competition, 4-1, the Huskers then fell to Fairleigh Dickinson in the second round, 4-2. The Huskers headed into the elimination bracket, where they defeated Vanderbilt in five games (177-219, 206-182, 225-185, 236-216, 213-159). NU then beat Arkansas State in six games (206-199, 216-211, 195-204, 198-183, 201-245, 185-165) and will go head-to-head with Arkansas State again on Saturday, April 10, at 11:30 a.m. Central.
Should NU defeat Arkansas State a second time, the Huskers will go against Fairleigh Dickinson in the championship match. A best-of-seven format using the Baker system, where a team's five bowlers rotate from frame to frame, determined winners and losers in the double-elimination tournament that began Friday and is to continue through the championship match, which is to be televised at 7:30 p.m. Central on Saturday, April 10, on ESPNU and will be rebroadcast Sunday at 3 p.m. on ESPN.
