Griffin Claims WBCA All-America Award

Lincoln - Nebraska's Kelsey Griffin added another first-team All-America award to her impressive hardware haul, as the senior from Eagle River, Alaska, was named a WBCA/State Farm First-Team All-American on Saturday.

Griffin, a 6-2 power forward, joined Karen Jennings as the only first-team WBCA All-Americans in school history, as Griffin was selected as one of 10 All-Americans by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. Griffin was formally introduced as an All-American at the Alamodome's center court during the open practice day at the NCAA Women's Final Four on Saturday at 1 p.m.

"This is truly a great honor, and it is humbling to be mentioned among all of these awesome players," Griffin said. "I think everything happens for a reason, and all the challenges and injuries I went through my first four years at Nebraska helped me to become a better player. This award also recognizes all the great teammates I played with at Nebraska. They all put me in a position to succeed, and I thank all of them for making me a better player."

Earlier this week, Griffin became the first Husker in history to claim first-team All-America honors from the Associated Press, the U.S. Basketball Writers Association and the Wooden Award. The 2010 Big 12 Player of the Year averaged 20.1 points and 10.4 rebounds per game, while leading Nebraska to the best season in school history with a 32-2 overall record and the program's first Big 12 title. A three-time first-team All-Big 12 selection, Griffin also earned a spot on the Big 12 All-Defensive Team with 60 steals, 26 blocked shots and a remarkable 29 charges drawn.

Connecticut's Maya Moore was selected as the Wade Trophy winner honoring the WBCA's national player of the year for the second straight season.
