Huskers Defeat BYU, Fall to Arizona State in Tempe

Tempe, Ariz. ­- The Nebraska soccer team hit the road for the second straight week and picked up its first win of the 2010 spring season with a 1-0 victory over BYU on Saturday in Tempe, Ariz.

Katie Goetzmann led the Huskers over the Cougars in the first match of day, giving Nebraska the game-winning goal in the first half of a 1-0 triumph. The Big Red outshot BYU, 9-8, while goalkeeper Emma Stevens played the entire match to register her first career shutout.

The Huskers dropped the second contest of the day to host Arizona State, 2-0.

Both BYU and Arizona State qualified for the 2009 NCAA Tournament. The Cougars won last season's Mountain West Conference regular season title and finished with an 18-4-2 record, while the Sun Devils were 9-7-4.

Nebraska will be out of spring competition for two weeks, returning to the field March 28 in Charlottesville for a pair of matches against the Virginia Cavaliers.
