Anderson, Jeter Earn Honors

Senior Ryan Anderson and junior Lance Jeter were named Monday to a pair of specialty teams as determined by a voting of sportswriters who regularly cover the Big 12 Conference.

Anderson was tabbed to the Big 12 All-Underrated Team, while Jeter earned his first career league honor by being named to the Big 12 All-Newcomer Team. For Anderson, it was the second straight season he has earned an accolade from the league's media, after earning a spot on the sportswriter's Big 12 All-Defense Team last season.

"Both Ryan and Lance are deserving of these awards and it's a credit to their passion for the game that they were recognized," Nebraska coach Doc Sadler said. "Ryan has done everything he could to make himself better over the past four years, and you can see it in how much he's been able to accomplish and how much he's done for this team. Lance has come in here and done everything we've asked him to do to lead this team while being one of the most consistent players on the floor. It's well-deserved for both of them."

Anderson leads the Huskers with 11.0 points and 5.2 rebounds per game this season while pacing the squad with 50 3-pointers and 51 steals. He is averaging a career high for points and has set or tied career highs in 3-pointers, steals, assists, blocked shots and field goals. During the season, Anderson crossed the 1,000-point and 500-rebound plateaus and became just the third Husker in program history - and just eighth player in the Big 12 era - to record at least 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 150 3-pointers in a career.

One of the top 3-point shooters in school history, Anderson will finish his career ranked among the top five at Nebraska in 3-pointers made and attempted as well as among the top 10 for 3-point accuracy. Anderson -- who led the Big 12 in 3-point percentage (48.6 percent) during league-only games this year --  is only the second player in school history with at least 48 3-pointers in three separate seasons, joining NU's all-time 3-point leader Cary Cochran.

Jeter joined the Huskers this season after two years of junior college ball at Polk (Fla.) Community College. In his first season of Division I basketball, Jeter has ranked among the Big 12 leaders for assists (121) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.0), placing in the top 10 in both categories. Jeter has a chance to become just the fourth Husker in the Big 12 era to average at least 4.0 assists per game, as he enters the Big 12 Championship this week averaging 3.9 assists per contest. Jeter has led the team in assists in 21 games while averaging 7.5 points and 3.6 rebounds per contest. He is also third on the team with 26 steals this year and is fourth with 24 3-pointers while leading the team by playing 30.6 minutes per game.

Anderson and Jeter will lead the Huskers as they start play in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship on Wednesday, March 10. Nebraska opens the tourney by facing No. 5 seed Missouri at 2 p.m. on Wednesday in the Sprint Center.
