Session 3: Arntz, Hutchinson Lead the Way

College Station, Texas - Nebraska's Kaitlin Arntz had a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard IM to cap a solid session for Nebraska at the Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday evening. Mariah Hutchinson also had a top-eight finish for the Huskers, finishing eighth in the 500-yard freestyle.

The Huskers started the day with a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay, setting a season-best time of 1:33.65. Texas A&M won the relay with a time of 1:29.31. Nebraska placed two divers in the top 16 in the one meter dive, as Kaitlan Walker finished 11th and Amy Herman finished 16th.

The 500-yard freestyle was up next, as the Huskers had Brandie Kavalec in the "B" Finals and Mariah Hutchinson in the "A" finals. Kavalec finished her heat in seventh place with a time of 4:54.35, bettering her career best she set earlier in the day. Hutchinson earned her fourth-career top-eight finish at the Big 12 Championships with an eighth-place finish and a time of 4:53.16.

Kaitlin Arntz finished sixth in the 200-yard IM with the same exact career-best time she set earlier in the day, 2:00.39. Texas A&M's Julia Wilkinson finished first with a time of 1:55.81. Arntz earned her fifth-career top-eight finish at the conference meet, and her first ever in the 200-yard IM.

Ariel Weech was the final scorer for Nebraska on the day when she finished third in the "B" finals of the 50-yard freestyle. Weech's time of 23.39 was a career-best and just .18 seconds from the winner of the heat.

The Huskers are in sixth place after seven events with 93 points. Texas A&M holds the lead with 357 points.

The Big 12 Championships continue on Friday with a morning prelim (10 a.m.) and evening finals (6 p.m.) session.
