Session 1: Huskers Set Season-Best Relay Time

College Station, Texas - The Huskers set a season-best time in the 800-yard freestyle relay on Wednesday night in Session 1 of 7 at the Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships in College Station, Texas. The Huskers DQ'ed on the first event of the day, the 200-yard medley relay, while the 800-yard freestyle relay team came in fifth with a time of 7:19.99.

The Huskers had set a season-best time in the 200-yard medley relay, but jumped before a touch on one of the exchanges and were disqualified. NU's team of Mariah Hutchinson, Katilin Arntz, Caroline Shea and Kelsey Grushecky in the 800-yard freestyle beat their previous season-best by nearly 15 seconds and nearly cracked the all-time NU top five.

The Huskers are in sixth place after the first day of competition with 28 points, while Texas and Texas A&M share the early lead with 72 points.

The Big 12 Championships hits full stride on Thursday, with two sessions of competition. The morning preliminary session starts at 10 a.m., while the finals session is at 6 p.m.
