Nebraska Falls at No. 14 Texas

Austin, Texas - Texas freshman Avery Bradley lit up the nets, hitting five first-half 3-pointers on his way to 25 points as No. 14/14 Texas ran past Nebraska, 91-51, on Saturday at the Frank Erwin Center. Avery led five Longhorns in double figures as UT improved to 20-5 on the year and 6-3 in league play while dropping the Huskers to 13-12, 1-9 in Big 12 action.

Bradley was on fire from the start, hitting a 3-pointer just 16 seconds into the game. He was not alone as the Longhorns ran out to a 10-2 lead behind five straight points from J'Covan Brown and went ahead 13-6 before the Huskers finally got going. The Huskers cut the deficit to four points, 15-11, on a pair of Ryan Anderson free throws at the 14:36 mark, but that was as close as the game would get as UT started to pull away for good.

Texas went ahead 21-12 on Bradley's third trey of the game and, after Jordan Hamilton added a 3-pointer, Bradley connected again from beyond the arc as the Longhorns connected on 5-of-7 3-point attempts to open the contest. Nebraska was just 3-of-12 from the field in that same span.

Bradley was then joined by Gary Johnson as the two fueled a 20-0 run in just under five minutes that broke the game open.

Johnson's basket with 5:30 to play started the charge and Bradley added a pair of baskets, including an alley-oop dunk in transition that turned into a three-point play. Johnson then scored three straight buckets before Brown's free throw with 1:19 left before intermission pushed the lead to 51-22.

Anderson snapped the run with a pair of free throws and Jorge Brian Diaz added a putback basket in the final 10 seconds as the Huskers trailed 53-26 at the break. The 53 points were the most the Huskers have allowed in a period this season, topping the 49 points BYU scored in the opening frame on Dec. 23.

In the second half, Nebraska opened hitting just 1-of-8 attempts from the floor as UT took the lead out to 37 points, 67-30, at the 15:14 mark. UT extended the lead out to 43 points at the 2:10 mark of the second half, the largest lead of the game as the Huskers hit just 28.6 percent from the field in the second period.

The Huskers finished the game hitting just 16-of-57 from the field (28.1 percent) and just 2-of-18 from 3-point range. The Huskers had come into the game on pace to set the school record by hitting 39.4 percent from long range this season.

Texas continued its hot ride throughout the game, finishing the contest hitting 48.3 percent from the field, including 11-of-23 from 3-point range. Along with Bradley's 25 points, Jordan Hamilton added 16, while Johnson and Damion James each added 13 and Brown had 12.

Anderson led the Huskers with nine points but shot just 2-of-9 from the floor. The Huskers were out rebounded 49-27.

The Huskers continue their road swing with another contest at a top-15 foe when Nebraska plays at No. 9 Kansas State on Wednesday, Feb. 17. NU and KSU will tip off at 6 p.m. in a game seen in Nebraska and Kansas on FS Midwest, and around the country on ESPN FullCourt.
