Lincoln ? Former Husker and 2008 indoor high jump national champion Dusty Jonas made his presence known at the 6th Moravian High Jump Tour in Hustopece and Trinec, Czech Republic, as he cleared an indoor best of 7-7 1/4. The jump tied Jonas with Finland’s Osku Torro for the No. 2 performance in the world and solidified him as the top jumper in the U.S., with former Kansas State Wildcat, Scott Sellers, and current Washington State Cougar, Trent Arrivey, next on the U.S. list at 7-4 1/4.

Opening in Hustopece on Jan. 23, Jonas finished second in a field of 12 jumpers to Russia’s Ivan Ukhov, as Jonas connected on a third-attempt clearance at 7-6 1/2, moving him ahead of three other jumpers who bowed out at 7-5 3/4. At the meet, Ukhov broke the meet record with a leap of 7-9 1/4, the top jump in the world in 2010.

Jonas then stayed hot as the tour moved to Trinec, where he started with six first attempt clearances. The eight-time All-American then took all three attempts at 7-7 1/4, where he succeeded on his final jump to secure his new personal best and another runner-up finish to Ukhov, who went one bar higher at 7-8.

Jonas will now return to Nebraska to train, before heading back overseas to Moscow, Russia, on Feb. 7 for the Russian Winter Meet and then onto Bydgoszcz, Poland, on Feb. 10 for Pedro’s Cup.
