Huskers in the NFL Playoffs - Conference Championships

Lincoln - In the conference championship round of the NFL Playoffs, four former Huskers were on teams fighting to get to the Super Bowl, with three players advancing.

 

In the first game on Sunday, Cody Glenn’s Indianapolis Colts ended Matt Slauson’s rookie season with the New York Jets by a score of 30-17. After the Jets averaged 170 rushing yards in their first two playoff games, the Colts held them in check on the ground to 86 yards. Glenn totaled two tackles on the day on special teams and will now make his first trip to the Super Bowl, while the Colts’ will make their second trip in four seasons.

 

Carl Nicks and Scott Shanle then helped the New Orleans Saints knock out the Minnesota Vikings in overtime, 31-28. Nicks played a key role from his left guard spot in protecting Drew Brees, who threw for 197 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. Defensively, Scott Shanle was all over the field with ten total tackles, including eight solo stops. As a unit, the Saints’ defense forced five Vikings’ turnovers, including a fumble and two interceptions from Brett Favre.

 

The three former Huskers will now meet in Miami on Sunday, Feb. 7 for Super Bowl XLIV, with kickoff set for 5:25 p.m. on CBS.
