Pre-Big 12 Championship Game vs. Texas
On having four Nebraska defensive players earn first-team All-Big 12 honors
“Yeah, Coach (Bo Pelini) is always talking about here at Nebraska, we play team defense. I’m not surprised that other guys made it, too. We make the plays we’re supposed to make as a defense. We don’t try to do too much. It’s a system defense, and you let the system work for you.”
On facing the Texas offense
“It’s going to be a great challenge. I’m looking forward to it. They have a potent offense. They can hit you in all kinds of ways, through the run game, through the passing game, quarterback draws, they can do it all. They have a great offense. I just can’t wait. It’s going to be a great challenge.”
On how Nebraska can win the game
“I believe we have to play mistake-free defense, and offense has to play mistake-free offense, too. Special teams too, we have to put it all together as a team and we have to play our best football all year to beat these guys.”
On the chemistry between Colt McCoy and Jordan Shipley
“Even at times when he’s flushed in the pocket, they know each other really well. I don’t know if they’ve got some kind of signals going on or whatnot before plays, but even if the play breaks down, (Shipley) always knows what kind of route to run and for some reason he always knows what spot Shipley’s in. So as a defense, you kind of have to have that in mind and keep your eyes on him if you’re covering him, and just play disciplined defense.”
On how McCoy has changed from when NU faced him in 2007
“He’s a completely different quarterback now. He can do it all. He can look you off, come back the other way. He can scramble. He’s a better runner now than he was in 2007, a better passer, more accurate. He’s just overall a good quarterback. That’s a challenge that we’re looking forward to as a defense.”
