Brandon Crick was honored as the 2009 Nebraska Amateur Golfer of the Year on Friday, Nov. 6, at the Nebraska Golf Association's annual awards banquet.
Crick claimed his third men's state championship last July, winning the 101st Nebraska Amateur Championship at Omaha's Ironwood Golf & Country Club. Prior to that, Crick advanced to the semifinals of the United States Golf Association's (USGA) Amateur Public Links Championship played at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Oklahoma. It was the furthest any Nebraskan had advanced in a USGA championship since 1972 when the tournament format was stroke play.
In addition to his July success, Crick made it to the semifinals of the Nebraska Match Play Championship, advanced to sectional qualifying for the United States Open, was topped in a play-off for Nebraska's lone spot in the U.S. Amateur and was runner-up, again following a play-off, at the Ironwood Classic. Crick also competed as a member of the NGA squad in the Nebraska Cup Matches against the state's top golf professionals.
In addition, Crick led the Nebraska men's golf team in the fall with a 72.27 stroke average.
