Banwarth Named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week

Lincoln ? Nebraska libero Kayla Banwarth was honored Monday, as the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. The junior libero averaged 7.17 digs and 0.67 assists per set while helping the Husker defense not allow an ace in two sweeps last week.

Banwarth enjoyed a record-setting night against No. 24 Baylor on Nov. 18, tying her career high with 32 digs in a three-set sweep of the Bears. She set school single-match and NU Coliseum records for most digs in a three-set match, bettering the previous three-game school mark of 28 by Annie Adamczak set in 1985. It was also the most digs in any match in the Nebraska Coliseum since 1987, as the Huskers held Baylor to a season-low .089 team hitting percentage. Banwarth continued her stellar play at Kansas on Saturday, collecting a match-high 11 digs while limiting Kansas to .085 hitting.

Banwarth and the eighth-ranked Huskers travel to Kansas State on Wednesday night. First serve is set for 7 p.m. and the match will be carried on selected Husker Sports Network stations and on Huskers.com
