Pre-Kansas State
On going into the Kansas State game with the goal of winning the North on the line
“We feel good. Like I said last week, it’s all in our hands. We’ve just got to go out there and take care of business. Obviously we have a tough challenge in K-State ahead of us and really, more or less, a big challenge for the defensive line that they love to run the ball. That’s a great challenge and I’m eager to get after it.”
On the defensive line’s performance against Kansas
“I would grade it as an F, just because I have high expectations for this team, especially the defensive line. I don’t think we got enough pressure. We got good pressure at times, but it wasn’t as consistent as I had hoped. That’s why I give us such a low grade, because we were inconsistent at times.”
On why they were inconsistent
“They kept us off-balance. Me, personally, I didn’t get a great feel of exactly what they were doing. Obviously we knew what they were doing, but it seems as we started to catch on they would throw a different wrinkle in there. But all that matters is that we played well enough to win and we got a win out of Kansas. It’s always tough to win on the road.”
On if being doubled from different areas was something new to him this year
“In some aspects, yes. They definitely did it to me in the running game when I’m going against their guard and have him one-on-one, then all of a sudden I get hit by a tight end or a fullback. That is a different wrinkle. That’s something I haven’t seen, but it’s something that I feel that we adjusted very well to. Obviously they didn’t run the ball as well as I’m sure they hoped to, but they did get some yardage on that stuff.”
On his final game at Memorial Stadium
“I’m just really kind of happy to see my family be able to be here. Unfortunately my two little sisters won’t be able to and my stepmom, but I’ll see them at a later date. I’m excited. It’s unfortunate it’s going to be my last game here at Memorial Stadium, but I’m definitely eager to have it be such a big game, having implications to win the Big 12 North title and then obviously getting to the Big 12 Championship.”
On the group of seniors
“It’s a small group and I think we’re all very close. We’ve been here for a long period of time. At least the majority of us are fifth-year seniors, so we’ve been here for quite a while. I think we’re definitely close. I have a personal relationship with every last one of them and a good one at that. Definitely a close unit.”
On growing as people and players in their time here
“We’ve definitely grown as people and players, definitely as players. Being able to adapt and adjust to different coaching changes and different schemes and different things, I definitely feel that we can pride ourselves on being able to be adaptable to the changes and different situations we’ve been thrown into. Not everybody is going to be thrown into that and have to deal with that, which hopefully they don’t have to. I think we’ve handled it very well and pretty much come out to the top and we want to continue to prove that we’re going to be on the top no matter what’s going to happen to us.”
