Huskers Sign Second Florida Player

Lincoln-Head coach Kerry McDermott and the Nebraska men's tennis team added another player from the state of Florida on Tuesday, Nov. 13, a day after announcing the signing of Tom Blackwell on Monday. Antonio Pena, a Weston, Fla., native, became the second player to sign with the Huskers after signing his letter of intent on Tuesday.

Earlier this season, Pena was the runner-up in the Class 1 A doubles tournament in Florida and has been training at the Bill Clark Tennis Academy over the past couple seasons. Pena is ranked at No. 162 nationally for his age group. McDermott pointed to Pena's solid technique as one of his strong points and is excited about the potential Pena brings to the Huskers.

"Antonio has tons of experience growing up playing tournaments not only in Florida, but all over the US," McDermott said. "He took some time off, but is focused and ready to make an impact on the college level. Antonio has a very sound game and technique is very good. We are looking forward to his next four years as a Husker."

Pena is set to join the Huskers for the start of the 2010 season.
