In St. Louis, Josh Browns played an integral role in the Rams’ first win of the 2009 season over Detroit, snapping a 17-game losing streak. Brown was a perfect 2-2 in PATs and also booted a 41-yard field goal, but his biggest play of the day came late in the second quarter with the Rams up, 3-2. With 1:03 to go and Brown set for a 53-yard field goal attempt, holder Donnie Jones flipped the ball to Brown, who then threw a short pass to Daniel Fells. Fells then rumbled 36-yard for a touchdown, giving the Rams a 10-2 lead at halftime following Brown’s extra point. The Rams went on to win, 17-10.

The Tennessee Titans also picked up their first win of the season, downing Jacksonville, 30-13. With Vince Young now running the offense, the Titans’ defense also improved their play, holding Jacksonville quarterback David Garrard to just 139 yards passing and no touchdowns, while intercepting him twice. Former Husker Kyle Vanden Bosch totaled five tackles and added his first sack of the year in the win.

Four former Huskers met in Baltimore, as the Ravens handed the Broncos their first loss of the year, 30-7. Former Blackshirt Fabian Washington led the way for the Ravens, totaling eight tackles, including six solo stops, while Sam Koch punted four times for 177 yards, averaging 44.3 yard per punt. For the Broncos, Russ Hochstein and the rest of the Broncos’ offensive line struggled against the Ravens’ front seven as the Broncos only ran the ball for 66 yards on 19 carries. Correll Buckhalter carried eight times for 16 yards, and also caught a team-high six passes for 30 yards.
