On what it’s like being in the limelight
“It’s an honor, no doubt, but it’s awkward. All of us up front really did a great job, and just to single out one person for this award, it’s awkward for me. I’m honored, don’t get me wrong, but four of us deserved it up front.”
On being in the Nebraska record book
“I never really thought about it. I just take the same mentality every single day just to get better and whatever happens happens. Like I said, it’s an honor, but I never really thought about it.”
On if he was aware how many sacks he had late in the Baylor game
“No, I had no idea what the stats were. I just kept playing. That’s what Coach Carl (Pelini) and Coach Bo (Pelini) tell us to do. That’s what I did. I was kind of in the zone, I think all four of us were kind of just letting things happen, playing technique and doing well. But no, I didn’t realize until someone told me.”
On how often the Bears were double-teaming Ndamukong Suh
“I think it was every single play the center kind of leaned toward Suh first. We just took advantage of that. Coach Bo came up to us and gave me the head nod, and I knew exactly what he meant. All four of us just kind of took the approach that we need to capitalize on the one-on-ones.”
On if Suh was getting frustrated
“No. It’s Ndamukong Suh. If you don’t account for him, he’s going to make you pay. He just told me to go ahead and make plays, just take advantage of the one-on-ones, and he’d cover for me. He had my back and the ends helped us out. I don’t think Suh got frustrated. You’ve got to account for him and he knows that. He just gave me the confidence to go out there and do what I did.”
On if teams have to start accounting more for both defensive tackles
“We were hoping throughout the season that if you double-team Suh, I’m going to go at it and try and make plays, so that was our goal at the beginning of the season, just to kind of even it out. After the last game, I would hope that teams would kind of start shading my way more and let Suh have the opportunity to make plays.”
