Featured Athlete of the Week: Christine Costello

Christine Costello is a senior on the Nebraska rifle team this season. A native of Queen Creek, Ariz., Costello is an economics major with a math minor. She has been successful on and off the range, capturing four career smallbore titles and making the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll five times in her Husker career.

This season, Costello is off to a good start, averaging a team-best 579 in smallbore and a 581.5 in air rifle. Her combined average of 1,161 leads the team through two matches.

Let's get to know Costello a little better.

When did you first get interested in rifle and who got you started?
"I first shot a rifle at some pine cones in Northern Arizona with my dad, and had so much fun I became addicted."

What is your favorite rifle memory growing up?
"Shooting Camp Perry National Matches one year. It poured down as we were shooting. It was fun trying to take the shot while drops splashed off the barrel and danced around my rifle."

Favorite discipline, smallbore or air rifle?
"Smallbore by FAR."

Interests besides rifle?
"Learning, intramural sports, rock climbing, reading."

Any superstitions or routines before shooting?
"I listen to Remember the Name by Fort Minor before every match as I stretch."

Favorite meal
"Steak Fajitas."

Favorite TV show
"House."

Favorite movie
"Fool Proof."

Favorite musical artist or song
"Changes weekly."

Favorite restaraunt
"Chili's."

Thing I miss most about my hometown
"The sunny weather."
