What a night Saturday was for Nebraska football. The weather was beautiful and the game . . . well 55-0 was just what the Huskers needed after heartbreak from the week before.
I hope the fans enjoyed the celebration that took place for the 300th consecutive sellout. Video tributes from former players and coaches and even Barry Switzer, the former Oklahoma coach, offered up praise for the Nebraska fan base.
It was good to see the Huskers flex their muscles and shut out an opponent for the first time in three years. It was also the first time since 2003 (when Bo was the Huskers’ defensive coordinator) that Nebraska has held four straight opponents to under 20 points.
Because of the lopsided score, the coaches were able to play most of the players.
Did you catch the fantastic run by Rex Burkhead?
All in all, it was a wonderful night for Cornhusker fans, players and coaches.
Now, in some ways, the season begins. Conference play starts Thursday night with Missouri in a critical Big 12 North battle.
Look for my perspective on Wednesday.
