Pre-Virginia Tech
Zac Lee
Junior, Quarterback
On if he is doing better than he thought he would be doing so far this season
“I’d like to say I have pretty high expectations for myself, so I feel like I’m pretty much right on track.”
On going to Blacksburg to start his first road game
“I said after the game on Saturday, that’s what college (football) is all about. Going into places like that, a great atmosphere and competing.”
On their fans not making it easy on him
“It’s just like our fans don’t when people come in here and play. That’s college football, that’s why it’s fun. You go to these different places and see these different fans that just love ball and love their team and you get to compete in a different atmosphere.”
On what type of opportunity this is for the program
“It’s a great opportunity, especially a team like Virginia Tech that has had such long-term success. I think it’s an opportunity that we are really looking forward to.”
On last year’s game
“Last year’s game was a close game. Really we had to come back a little bit. We had some missed opportunities and they took advantage of some opportunities, so give them all the credit, they played a great game last year. They won.”
On how big of an adjustment a silent count is
“I think it’s easier. I don’t have to worry about the cadence, just keep my eyes up and keep looking at the defense. The snap’s on (me) and Jake (Hickman). Jake will do a good job with that. We’ll be fine.”
On if he has noticed that he is ranked seventh in the nation in passing efficiency
“Yeah, it’s after two games though, so a lot of things can change and a lot of things can happen. I’m definitely happy about how I’ve performed, but I think there are things I can definitely improve on and do better. I think that’s something to look at more at the end of the year and judge it from there.”
On what aspects of this game are different from the last two weeks
“It’s just the next step. I know you guys (in the media) are thinking he’s just saying it’s the next step, but it is. It’s the next game on our schedule and therefore it’s the most important game. It’s obviously a little different because they’re a highly ranked opponent who’s played good people and done well against them. But we’re focused every week and we prepare every week as it is the biggest week. I think preparation and everything will be very similar this week just because that’s how our coaches prepare us every week.”
On if thinks there are things he won’t be able to get away with that he did against Florida Atlantic and Arkansas State
“I’d imagine things might move a little faster. I think you’ll probably be a little more precise with things overall. Our offense as a whole, just be more precise, more detailed because I think the speed of the game might speed up a little bit because of the caliber of athletes they have and the coaching that they have.”
