Arkansas State May Be Tougher than FAU

Last week was a good start for the Big Red.

I don’t want folks to get overly excited, but beating Florida Atlantic, 49-3, should feel good but this Husker team still has a ways to go.

This week’s challenge is a step up for Nebraska. The Red Wolves of Arkansas State have more ability across the board than Florida Atlantic. In pre-season publications, for example, 14 different Red Wolves were named first-team all-conference.

Offensively, keep your eye on the quarterback, Corey Leonard.  He’s the schools all-time yardage leader.

Reggie Arnold is a talented running back. He’s rushed for more than 1,000 yards in each of his first three years at Arkansas State.

The offensive line is an area that the Huskers might be able to exploit, especially since ASU lost a starter at guard last week to an injury.

Defensively, the Red Wolves have a pair of players who have a good chance of playing on Sundays in the NFL.

One is Alex Carrington, a defensive end who last season was the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year.

Another one to watch up front is Bryan Hall. He had a sack-and-a-half last week in the Red Wolves’ shutout of Mississippi Valley State.

Bottom line, look for Arkansas State to put up a better fight than Florida Atlantic did last Saturday.

And make sure you bring your rain gear. Saturday’s forecast calls for wet weather.
