Lincoln - The Nebraska women's basketball team will have a pair of Big 12 Conference regular-season games televised live by Fox Sports Midwest as part of its agreement with the network, the partners announced on Thursday.
Nebraska, which has three Big 12 Conference games set for national telecast on FSN, will tip-off its Fox Sports Midwest schedule on Wednesday, Feb. 3, when the Huskers play host to Oklahoma State at the Devaney Center in Lincoln. Tip time is set for 7:05 p.m.
One week later, Fox Sports Midwest will hit the road to follow the Huskers to Lawrence, Kan., for Nebraska's Big 12 North showdown with Kansas. Game time at Allen Fieldhouse is set for 7 p.m. The Huskers and Jayhawks will be two of the most experienced teams in the powerful Big 12 this season, with each team featuring six seniors.
Nebraska returns six starters for the 2009-10 campaign, including the return of two-time first-team All-Big 12 performer Kelsey Griffin. The 6-2 forward from Eagle River, Alaska, redshirted last season while recovering from a foot injury, but the Huskers still advanced to their sixth consecutive postseason tournament appearance.
Senior Cory Montgomery earned honorable-mention All-Big 12 accolades in Griffin's absence and returns this season alongside Griffin to give the Huskers one of the most talented and experienced inside duos in the conference. Montgomery, a 6-2 forward from Cannon Falls, Minn., has produced 947 points and 457 rebounds in three seasons in Lincoln, including 15.2 points and 7.8 rebounds per game in her first season as a starter in 2008-09.
Griffin has amassed 1,348 points and 665 boards in her three seasons as a starter at Nebraska, giving the duo nearly 2,300 points and more than 1,100 rebounds combined in their careers.
Senior guard Yvonne Turner from Omaha leads the Husker backcourt as a two-time Big 12 All-Defensive Team honoree. Turner, who has been among the Big 12 leaders in both steals and three-point shooting each of the past two seasons, is also on pace to threaten the 1,000-point career scoring mark in 2009-10. Turner averaged 11.7 points per game as a junior.
Fellow seniors Nicole Neals, Kala Kuhlmann and Nikki Bober, have also seen extensive playing time in their roles for the Huskers throughout the past three seasons.
Nebraska's junior class adds three more returning starters to the mix, including two-year starter Dominique Kelley. The 5-7 guard from Lincoln has started all 64 games in her first two seasons in a Husker uniform, and averaged 9.7 points and 3.3 rebounds per game as a sophomore.
Fellow junior guard Kailtyn Burke also saw extensive starting time in the backcourt last season, while Catheryn Redmon emerged as one of the Big 12's best post defenders as a sophomore a year ago. The 6-3 center from Grand Prairie, Texas, started NU's last 24 games in 2008-09, and averaged 5.7 points and 5.5 rebounds per game while producing 67 blocked shots. Redmon's block total ranked among the top players in the league, joining All-Americans Courtney Paris (Oklahoma) and Danielle Wilson (Baylor), while also ranking among the best marks in Nebraska history.
The Huskers expect to be bolstered by the return of sophomore Harleen Sidhu, and redshirt freshman Layne Reeves, while a class of three newcomers will be led by high school All-America point guard Lindsey Moore. The Washington High School Player of the Year, Moore will be joined by Californian Meghin Williams and Minnesotan Katya Leick as true freshmen for the Huskers this season.
Nebraska officially begins practice on Friday, Oct. 16, before the Huskers travel to Kansas City, Mo., for Big 12 Women's Basketball Media Day on Wednesday, Oct. 21. NU tips off exhibition play against Pittsburg State at the Devaney on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 7:05 p.m.
