Brooke Delano didn't grow up dreaming of being a power player wearing a Nebraska volleyball uniform, but last Saturday night she showed all the signs with career highs of 14 kills and five blocks in a five-set victory over No. 11 Minnesota.
Her weekend performance put a new spotlight on Nebraska's 6-4 sophomore middle blocker, who was recruited to play both volleyball and basketball at Creighton, the Huskers' Tuesday 7 p.m. opponent in the NU Coliseum.
The Bluejays weren't the only ones interested in recruiting Delano as a two-sport athlete. So did Big 12 schools Missouri and Iowa State. Delano also looked at Duke and Kansas State to play basketball.
Delano, one of those rare athletes who made first-team all-state in both sports, chose Nebraska volleyball over all other options.
After starting on four consecutive state championship volleyball teams at Bellevue West High School, she came to Nebraska asking to wear the same No. 8 that once belonged to her all-time favorite Husker player - Melissa Elmer.
She made her first career start almost a year ago against Kansas State as a redshirt freshman and now appears ready to take her performance to the next level.
Today, in a Quick Hits interview, she tells us what her favorite book, movie, TV show, singer and band are. She even tells about a special talent she has that no one would ever suspect
