With the opening kickoff of the 2009 Nebraska football season one week from tomorrow, the Huskers returned to the Ed and Joyanne Gass Practice Fields on Friday afternoon for a two-hour practice in full pads.
"We still have a lot to get fixed,” Coach Bo Pelini said. “Our attention to detail needs to get better. I am seeing some good things too, the effort was good today.”
With the Huskers’ focus turning to Florida Atlantic tomorrow, Pelini discussed what he has seen out of the Owls.
“They are a good football team,” Pelini said. “They have a lot of speed and good skill guys. Obviously the quarterback is a good player. Defensively they are athletic.”
Throughout fall camp, Pelini has noticed the leadership of senior Jacob Hickman.
“He is a smart, good football player,” Pelini said. “The guys respect him, and they know that he knows what he is doing. Jacob is someone who leads by example.”
The Huskers will practice again tomorrow morning, as they start preparations for next Saturday’s season opener. Kickoff is set for a 6 p.m. at Memorial Stadium, with television coverage provided by FSN pay-per-view.
