When That Kickoff Keeps Going and Going, Say Adios in Honor of Adi

Remember when Nebraska sportscasters used to say "Adios" after Adi (pronounced ah-dee) Kunalic booted one of his kickoffs into the seats overlooking the end zone?

Once, against Iowa State in 2007, Kunalic (pronounced Kun-ALEK) kicked a ball so perfectly that it went through the uprights and landed 10 rows up in the seats.

That's when "Adios" reached its peak in popularity . . . the shorthand description for kicking the ball "goodbye."

Kunalic has spent most of the last two football seasons kicking the ball in the shadows of his teammate and good friend, Alex Henery, but that's just fine with the 6-0 junior from Fort Worth, Texas. He's one of Henery's biggest fans.

With a 3.8-plus cumulative grade-point average in advertising, Kunalic earned first-team Academic All-Big 12 honors last year after proving to be one of the nation's most powerful special teams kickers.

Nearly 40 percent of his kickoffs over the past two seasons have resulted in touchbacks, allowing the Huskers to finish among the national leaders in that category.

With two more seasons to perfect his specialty, Kunalic is excited to have a meaningful role on the team.

"I love the fans here," he said. "I love the tradition. I feel I've been treated like part of a big family."

Today, Kunalic shares his personal thoughts on "Quick Hits", our new video series.
