Pelini: We're Trying to Fit the Puzzle Together

After a day off, the Nebraska football team did not waste any time getting back to work as the Huskers practiced for 2 1/2 hours Monday morning on the Ed and Joyanne Gass Practice Fields.

Now in the second week of Fall Camp, Head Coach Bo Pelini said it is time to start determining a depth chart for the 2009 season opener.

"The competition is fierce right now," Pelini said. "We're looking at a lot of different guys, but after this week we're going to have to start zeroing in on who's winning jobs and where people are. This week - personnel-wise - we're trying to find out specifically who fits in where. We're trying to fit the puzzle together."

Nebraska will go through nine practices in the next six days. Pelini said the execution and consistency is improving, but the Huskers must continue to eliminate breakdowns on both sides of the ball.

"It's a big week for us," Pelini said. "We need to make a big jump and keep working to do get better. Obviously, we have a lot of work to do and our kids understand that. If we continue what we started today we'll be alright."

Junior tight end Dreu Young, junior offensive lineman Ricky Henry and sophomore cornerback Alfonzo Dennard all returned from injuries and took part in practice Monday morning. The Huskers hit the field again this afternoon for their second practice of the day and have a single practice on Tuesday afternoon.
