Nebraska senior defender Carly Peetz has been named to the 2009 preseason All-Big 12 team, released Wednesday by the conference office as voted on by the league's coaches.
Peetz was voted to the All-Big 12 second team in 2008, when she helped lead Nebraska to a 6-4 Big 12 record as one of the conference's best defenders. The Lincoln native helped the Huskers post five shutouts on the season and had a career-high six points on two goals and two assists. As a freshman in 2006, she was awarded a spot on the Big 12 All-Newcomer team.
In 2009, Peetz is one of seven returning starters off a team that finished the last season 10-9-1 and barely missed the NCAA Tournament.
Nebraska opens the 2009 season with an exhibition game on Monday, Aug. 18 at Colorado College. The season opener is Aug. 22 at Northern Colorado, while the Huskers' first home game is Sept. 4 against Lamar at 4 p.m. The annual Meet-N-Beat is Wednesday, Aug. 26 at the Nebraska Soccer Field at 6:30 p.m.
