Huskers Continue Installations in Fall Camp

After thunderstorms swept through the Lincoln area during the day on Sunday, the Nebraska football team took the field for the second time this fall as it prepares for the season opener against Florida Atlantic on Sept. 5.  The Huskers practiced in helmets and shorts while utilizing both the Hawks Championship Center and the Ed and Joyann Gass grass practice fields. After working for a little over three hours, offensive coordinator Shawn Watson talked about the importance of a team's timing after Sunday's workout.

"Whenever players and coaches have been apart, even though (the players) work together all summer, there are a lot of things that have to get accomplished in terms of timing," Watson said.  "We're a little rusty in that regard, which we should be; we just have to get back to work on it.  The kids are working really hard right now."

One player that has caught the eye of Watson is wide receiver Brandon Kinnie.  The junior college transfer from Kansas City, Mo., has stood out in a group of young receivers. Last season at Ft. Scott Community College, Kinnie caught 62 passes for 854 yards and 10 touchdowns and looks to provide a spark for the Huskers at the position this season.

"He's done really well.  He's really shown himself," Watson said. "We're only day two, but we got a lot of installing in. He's one guy though, out of the new guys, that has really impressed."

The Huskers return to the practice field on Monday at 3:45 p.m. for their third practice of fall camp. Check back to Huskers.com for more updates on the Nebraska football team.
