Nebraska senior golfer Brandon Crick captured his second career Nebraska Amateur title on Friday at Ironwood Golf & Country Club in Omaha.
Crick recorded a final round 68 to finish at 17-under par, four strokes better than Texas A&M's John Hurley. Crick entered the day with a one shot cushion over Hurley, but separated himself with three birdies and no bogeys on the back nine.
The trophy gives Crick some hardware to show for his impressive summer of amateur golf. In July, Crick was defeated in the semifinals of the Nebraska Match Play Championship. Last week, Crick made it all the way to the semifinals of the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship before losing on the final hole of his semifinal match to the eventual champion.
The victory makes Crick only the second golfer to win the Amateur title twice in the last 20 years, as he also captured the 2007 trophy.
Among other Husker golfers in the field, junior Mike Coatman rallied from 50th place at the beginning of Thursday's third round to a ninth-place finish overall. Coatman followed up his 79 on Wednesday with a 68 and 67 to jump into the top ten at even par. Sophomore Austin Zimmerman tied for 12th at +3. Freshman Jordan Reinertson tied for 45th at +16. Former Husker Ryan Nietfeldt tied for fifth.
