Nonen Signs With Los Angeles Sol

Lincoln ? Former Husker Sharolta Nonen has signed with the Los Angeles Sol of Women’s Professional Soccer, the club announced earlier this week. A 5-6 defender, Nonen replaces the injured Christie Shanor and joins former NU teammate Karina LeBlanc on the Sol. Per club and WPS policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

One of Nebraska’s most decorated players, Nonen was a major contributor to a Husker squad that went 80-10-3 from 1996 to 1999. She became NU soccer’s first three-time All-American, including the second Husker to be named to the NSCAA First-Team in 1999. As a senior, she was the first defender to capture Big 12 Player-of-the-Year honors while grabbing first-team All-Big 12 honors for the third consecutive season. She was also named the Big 12 Tournament Defensive MVP after leading Nebraska to its third Big 12 Tournament title.

A native of Vancouver, British Columbia, Nonen continued her career with the Canadian National Team, making 58 career caps while playing in the 1999 and 2003 World Cups. She also played in the WUSA with the Atlanta Beat from 2001-2004.

Nonen joins a Sol club that is currently first in the WPS standings with a dominate 11-2-4 record. Los Angeles has guaranteed itself a spot in the playoff, and wrap up the regular season with three road games. The Sol’s next game is July 23rd against FC Gold Pride.
