Thomas Invited to U-20 National Team Camp

Lincoln ? Nebraska’s Molly Thomas has been invited to participate in the U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team training camp in Boulder, Colo., from July 11-19. This is the second time this summer a Husker has been selected to participate in a national-team training camp, after Carly Peetz spent time with the U.S. Under-23 squad in June.

Thomas will join head coach Jillian Ellis’ squad that recently beat England 4-1 on June 22 and tied Germany 2-2 on June 26 in two matches on foreign soil. The upcoming training camp will feature two games versus the Canada U-20 squad, and will run concurrently with the U.S. U-18 Women’s National Team.

Huskers.com recently caught up with Thomas to discuss her first chance to play with a national team.

What’s been going through your head as you prepare to head to Colorado? “I am definitely excited for this opportunity, but I’m also really nervous. It is an honor just to be asked in first place. Now I want to go out there and represent Nebraska and play like I always do.”

How do you feel about the chance to represent the United States? “Playing with all those good players at the camp is a huge thing. The competition there is going to be great and I hope to bring some of it back here. Getting an opportunity to represent the U.S. is awesome too. Carly got it earlier this summer and I hope a couple other girls on our team get it too because it is something everybody should get to experience.”

How has your time here at Nebraska prepared you for this opportunity? I feel like going from high school to college, I’ve gotten so much better. Coach Walker has given me that chance to improve and so has the rest of the Nebraska team. Everyone is there to make each other better. My teammates are the ones that got me this opportunity.”

What do you want to take away from the camp? “Obviously just getting better individually is a goal for me. Going into the camp I’m hoping I can learn from some of the players that have been there because they have had this experience before.”
