Ever wonder what makes someone like Tom Osborne or Bo Pelini so successful?
You’re not the only one. Omaha businessman David Sokol, the chairman of the board for a highly successful company with 17,000 employees, is also a big fan of Nebraska’s athletic director and head football coach.
Sokol shares the marquee with Osborne and Pelini for Wednesday’s Leadership 101 class, but he said he’s as eager to be a listener as he is to be a presenter when at least 150 meet at Nebraska’s football auditorium.
“I love to participate in something like this and learn from people who in many ways have a much harder job than I do,” Sokol said. “I have the benefit of working with people who are long-term, high-quality partners and the best in the business. What Coach Osborne and Pelini do is much harder. They’re shaping very young people who rotate through the program on an average of every three years, so they have to lead, motivate, train and teach a new group of student-athletes on a rotating basis every year.”
Sokol said there are certain methodologies and fundamental truths in proven leaders, but they are not as complicated as people might think. That’s why Wednesday’s two Leadership 101 sessions (8:30 a.m. ? noon and 1-4 p.m.) are called “Common Sense for Real Results”.
“This is a great opportunity for people in the state to experience the passion that these three highly successful leaders bring to their respective professions,” said Jeff Jamrog, Nebraska’s assistant athletic director for football operations.
Jamrog, the event coordinator, said you can still sign up for Leadership 101 at $200 per session. If three or more sign up from the same business or company, the cost is reduced to $150 per person. High school and college students can attend for $100. The cost includes autographed pictures of Osborne and Pelini and a t-shirt.

Jamrog said walk-ins can register as late as 8 a.m. Wednesday for the morning session and as late as 12:30 p.m. Wednesday for the afternoon session.
