Chelsea Finnegan to Join Huskers in 2009-10

Chelsea Finnegan, sister of Husker senior Ashley Finnegan, has committed to walk on to the Nebraska women’s tennis team for the 2009-10 season. Finnegan, a native of Weston, Fla., will have all four years of eligibility left when she joins the team in August.

“We’re very honored to have Chelsea choose to join our team next season,” Head Coach Scott Jacobson said. “We feel like she has the potential to become a very good Division I tennis player.”

Chelsea will follow in the footsteps of her older sister Ashley, who wrapped up a successful career both on and off the court. She was a valuable contributor to the team for the three years she was at Nebraska, and was an Academic All-Big 12 first-team selection this year. She earned her degree in Marketing this past Saturday.

“We’re very excited about the things Chelsea can bring to our team,” Jacobson said. “She is a welcome addition to the Husker family.”

Finnegan and Stefanie Weinstein, from Much, Germany, who was signed to a scholarship last month, will both be joining the Husker team in time for the 2009 fall season.
