Finnegan Earns Degree

Lincoln - Senior Ashley Finnegan received her bachelor’s degree in marketing during spring commencement exercises at the BobDevaneySportsCenter on Saturday, May 9.

Finnegan, a native of Weston, Fla., was a key contributor to Scott Jacobson’s women’s tennis team over the last three seasons. Joining the team as a sophomore after playing her freshman season at the College of Charleston, Finnegan was an immediate contributor to the Husker squad, winning 22 combined matches in her first season with the Huskers. She finished her career with 44 combined wins. Finnegan also cracked the national rankings in 2009, as she was No. 118 on the ITA singles rankings on the Feb. 19 poll.

Finnegan was a six-time selection on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll, and earned first-team Academic All-Big 12 honors this season.

Finnegan was one of 39 Husker student-athletes across 23 sports to receive their diplomas on Saturday. NU’s student-athlete graduates came to Nebraska from 13 states and two foreign countries, and included 17 graduates from the state of Nebraska.

Nebraska’s 2009 class of May graduates combined for 24 All-America awards and one CoSIDA Academic All-America award during their careers as Huskers. Nebraska leads the nation across all teams, all sports and all divisions with 268 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans and features a Big 12-leading 93 percent graduation rate for student-athletes.
