Place Earns Nebraska Degree

Lincoln - Megan Place, the lone senior on the 2009 Nebraska women's golf team, received her bachelor's degree in art history and criticism during spring commencement exercises at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Saturday.

Place, a native of Omaha, was a two-time first-team academic All-Big 12 Conference performer for the Huskers during her five-year career with the NU women's golf team. She was also a nine-time selection on the Big 12 Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll and was one of 24 Nebraska Student-Athlete Hero Award winners in 2008.

On the course, Place earned a pair of top-20 finishes while playing in 51 rounds in her career. She was named the Nebraska Amateur of the Year in 2005.

Place was one of 39 Husker student-athletes across 23 sports to receive their diplomas on Saturday, May 9. NU's student-athlete graduates came to Nebraska from 13 states and two foreign countries, and included 17 graduates from the state of Nebraska.

Nebraska's 2009 class of May graduates combined for 24 All-America awards and one CoSIDA Academic All-America award during their careers as Huskers. Nebraska leads the nation across all teams, all sports and all divisions with 268 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans and features a Big 12-leading 93 percent graduation rate for student-athletes.
