Huskers Hope for Strong Showing in the Desert

The Nebraska men's golf team looks to find some consistency at the Desert Shootout this Thursday through Saturday. The 54-hole tournament will be broken down into 18 holes each day at the Par-71 Palm Valley Golf Course in Goodyear, Ariz.

Nebraska is coming off its best finish in nearly two years, a third-place showing at the Troy Invitational. But because of poor course conditions, the Huskers shot 935, their highest score of the season by 40 strokes.

Brandon Crick has been the best Husker out of the gate, averaging 75.33 strokes and recording finishes of 13th and 16th place, despite the terrible conditions at the Troy Invitational two weeks ago. Mike Coatman is scoring 75.67 in the spring season and leads the Huskers on the season with a 73.6 stroke average.

True freshman Scott Willman has competed for the Big Red in the two spring tournaments, recording a 77.33 average and a career-best tie-for-13th finish at the Troy Invitational.

Formerly known as the Ron Moore Invitational, the Desert Shootout features 15 teams, including: Air Force, Boise State, Cleveland State, Coastal Carolina, Denver, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri State, New Mexico individuals, Northern Iowa, Southern Utah, Tulsa and Utah Valley.
