Huskers Searching for 10-0 Start

The Nebraska women’s tennis team has a chance to start the season 10-0 for the second consecutive year as it squares off against conference foe Kansas on Friday, March 13, at the NebraskaTennisCenter. The match will be the final home match for the Huskers before they depart on a three-match road trip, starting next Tuesday at San DiegoState.

The Huskers improved to 9-0 last weekend with a pair of non-conference victories against then-No. 66 WichitaState and Northern Iowa. The Huskers increased their non-conference winning streak to 25 in a row, and also won its 94th non-conference match in the last 97 overall at home with their victory over the Panthers.

Nebraska will travel to San Diego during the school’s spring break to take on No. 28 San Diego State on Tuesday, March 17. The Aztecs are currently 8-3 on the season, including four wins over ranked opponents. Nebraska travels to Baylor on Saturday, March 21, to face the No. 5 Bears, then wraps up its road trip at No. 62 Texas Tech on Monday, March 23.

Scouting the Jayhawks

Kansas is coming off two straight losses to ranked opponents at home, as it lost to No. 58 BYU and No. 54 Tulsa last week. The Jayhawks have struggled on the road this season, going 1-3 away from their home court in Lawrence. Nebraska will look to stop a two-match losing streak against the Jayhawks, including a tight 4-3 victory by KU last season. Kansas is led by seniors Edina Horvath and Yuliana Svistun, both of whom have regular spots near the top of the Jayhawk lineup.

Huskers Jump to 56th in Rankings

After making their debut in the polls last week at No. 75, the Huskers jumped 19 spots to No. 56 in the latest rankings, thanks in part to their two wins last week over a pair of 8-1 squads, including then-No. 66 Wichita State in Wichita. The 9-0 Huskers will have a chance to climb even further in the rankings if it can keep up the success they have had to start the season, as they play six straight ranked opponents starting on March 17 against San DiegoState.
