Boulder City, Nev. - True freshman Natalie Gleadall shot an opening-round 77 to sit in a tie for 11th place heading into Tuesday's second round at the UNLV Spring Invitational on Monday in Boulder City, Nev. As a team, the Huskers head into the second round in a tie for 15th at 330.
Gleadall's five-over-par first round on the 6,234-yard layout at the Boulder Creek Golf Club led NU's five-player lineup in the 18-team field, while sophomore Mary Kate Bird added an 80 to sit in a tie for 32nd place among the 96 individuals in the tournament.
True freshman Maddie Sheils added an 86 in her first career round in the Husker lineup, while junior JC Stevenson managed an 87 to round out NU's scoring contingent. Junior Charlotte Wendner settled for an 89 to tie for 90th through the first 18 holes in the 54-hole event.
Strong winds throughout the opening round caused first-round scores to be high across the board. Texas Tech and Tulsa tied for the best rounds of the day with scores of 306, while Oregon heads into the second round in third place at 311. The hosts from UNLV are tied for fourth at 312, along with Georgia.
Georgia's Marta Silva produced the only round better than par through the first 18 holes with a two-under-par 70. Silva enters the second round with a four stroke lead over Texas Tech's Ulrika van Niekerk, who managed a 74 to sit alone in second place.
